About Deb

My Coaching Experience

Deb Hansen is the creator and owner of Transition-U.I have been coaching part-time since 2003 and full time since 2007. I earned my CPCC, coaching credential in 2005. I have worked with over 100 individuals from all walks of life on issues ranging from career, work/life balance, feeling of being stuck, lack of fulfillment, confusion, overwhelm, low self esteem, life transitions such as retirement, career change, divorce, and re-entry to the workplace.

My Mission

My belief is that all people are creative, resourceful and whole. My clients don’t come to coaching because they are broken and need fixing. The come to coaching because they understand that making a change can be challenging, even a change that is obvious and necessary. They come ready to do the work that they know is necessary to bring about that change. My mission as their coach is to understand who they are as unique individuals, to learn what they want to achieve with coaching, and to be their guide, catalyst, and witness through the process.

It is both a privilege and an honor to walk beside my clients in the process of coaching and to witness the incredible courage and resiliency of these amazing human beings that are my clients.

My Story

When I was a young girl, I always knew that I wanted to be in a helping profession. Because I attended Catholic schools, there were no guidance counselors to light the way. In high school I thought I would either become a pediatrician or a psychologist. By graduation I had decided on psychology and received my BS in psychology from the University of Illinois. Unsure of my next step I entered the working world, in banking.

Since I’ve always been achievement oriented, I decided that an MBA would be beneficial, so I went to business school while working full time. After graduating, I landed a junior management position with Mobil Oil. Over the span of 25 years I worked in industries such as energy, restaurant franchising, banking, insurance, financial services and newspaper advertising. The longer I spent in the corporate world, the further I got from my childhood vision of being in a helping profession.

In 2001, I entered a women’s study group where I discovered I had to make a change. One of the women in the group had taken a coaching course and suggested that I might like it. I took a leap of faith and enrolled in my first course at The Coaches Training Institute. Early on in my first course, I knew I had found my true calling. In 2005 I completed my training and earned my coaching certification from The Coaches Training Institute, again while working full time. I finally left the corporate world in 2007 and have since made coaching my profession.

In a way, I feel like the poster child for midlife career change. Yes, it’s challenging. In my case it took time, effort, and money to follow my calling. It’s also been one of the most exciting and rewarding journeys of my life. Along the way I’ve met amazing people, as friends, colleagues, mentors and clients. I’ve discovered other passions as well. I discovered that I loved hiking, canoeing, camping, and wilderness areas. I climbed my first mountain on my 50th birthday. I’ve discovered a passion for painting in my 50’s. I consider myself to be a personal growth “junkie”. I’m always looking for ways to grow and improve and surround myself with people who feel the same way.

I’ve created an amazing life and I know it’s possible for you to do the same. I invite you to join me on the journey. Your most fulfilling life is just a step away.
